Although Summit is known for its thermoformed 3D maps, we can also create 3D-printed topographic and bathymetric models.  The park rangers at Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore came to Summit and requested a color 3D printed model of the Good Harbor Reef — a spawning and nursery habitat for Great Lakes native fish.  Being under the lake surface, the reef's rocky structure and prominent shape was difficult for visitors to visualize.  This 20" wide x 2.25" deep precision bathymetric multicolor model accurately shows the reef in Good Harbor Bay.  The model is used as a briefing and interpretation tool for park visitors, allowing them to understand a key story of the lakeshore hidden from view.
